Emily Carter has severe anemia, but her mother, Victoria Bennett, is terrified of looking biased. At the school blood drive, Victoria orders Emily to donate like everyone else: "Even if it costs your life, finish all 400 milliliters." When Emily collapses, the nurse calls her selfish, students laugh, and Victoria kicks her body, certain she is faking. Emily's soul watches as they keep drawing blood from her corpse.
