Gideon chained Cora to an altar and fed her to the Deep King. The monster didn't tear her apart. Soren unlocked her chains, kissed her, and gave her half his heart-stone so she could breathe the sea. She married him. She loved him. Then Gideon returned. He cut out Soren's heart and crushed the stone in front of her.
