The Kingdom of Silver Moon must send a princess to wed the King of the Wildlands. Two princesses, Maeve and Lila, draw lots to decide who will be married off to that barren land. Lila begs Maeve to go in her place.
Then Maeve remembers her last life. She stayed — and married Asher, the general who had been her childhood sweetheart. Their marriage turned bitter, and they spent a lifetime hating each other. On the day the city fell, Asher died shielding her escape, and with his last breath he begged her to let him be with Lila. Maeve had spent a whole life and never won his heart. She threw herself from the cliff to follow him in death.
Reborn, Maeve finally sees clearly: this time, she will give Asher and Lila her blessing.
