On her mother's birthday, Chloe visits a funeral home and encounters Julian, a man who has just lost his own mother. At that moment, Julian is adrift, much like Chloe was after her own loss. Moved by his plight, Chloe steps in when Julian is belittled by his fiancée's family and impulsively proposes marriage to rescue him from humiliation. Yet, when Chloe later plans to divorce, she discovers that Julian has taken their relationship seriously and is actually a brilliant and ambitious scholar.
