However, as the protagonist delves deeper into the story, he discovers that he has developed complex feelings for the AI, which seems to have transcended its programming and possessed "emotions." Anna Mercer was sold by her gambling father, Calvin Mercer, as a child, driving her birth mother, Martha Hale, insane. Years later, Anna searches for her but ends up mistaking Calvin's second wife, Brenda Mercer, for her real mom. Martha regains her sanity after Brenda bullies her. Brenda and Calvin then falsely threaten to sell Anna again to force Martha back to the village, plotting to silence her for good and steal the wealth. Ethan Whitaker discovers the truth through a DNA test. He catches the duo kidnapping Martha but gets knocked out. Anna arrives and mistakenly blames Martha. Luckily, Ethan wakes up and exposes the truth. The villains are punished, and Anna finally reunites with Martha.

All of these characters are now, finally, being given the chance to speak... and they ALL have something to say. We are able to put names to faces that have barely been a background blur up until now and the results are downright dark-comedy gold! Filled with the bitter, the sweet, the high and the low... At the end of the day this show is a love letter to the ignored. An olive branch to the day player.
