Calvert Drake was married to The Regent Princess Cecelia Field. But from the look of things, he was not satisfied in his marriage.
Obviously, the movie indicated that Calvert Drake was rather obsessed with The Grand Princess Gabrielle, who was the spitting image of her cousin, Princess Cecelia. They looked identical and could be easily confused.
Since Calvert Drake was could not meet up with marrying Princess Gabrielle, he had to settle for her cousin, Cecelia. However, Calvert Drake would often want Cecelia to renounce her identity, and claim to be the Regent Princess, Gabrielle.

Princess Cecelia, before she took her last breath, asked her cousin, Gabrielle to avenge everyone who had wronged her in the past.
