At first he was surely disappointed, as in the period of destitution where there were no modern essentials, he was born in the body of a poor person who was dead after being malnourished and bedridden for days after heavy rains. He only had three acres of barren land left to his name by his parents, who died early.
Worse, he was unmarried and had to find a wife to avoid getting drafted into the army. That’s when Conrad, using his body’s owner’s memories, ended up at the slave trader auction, where they were selling women. In this era, women were treated like a tool to serve men and to bear children to carry on family legacy if they were lucky. If not, they were sold between brothels.
