It was highly prohibited that unmarried young ladies be seen alone in public. They were required to be accompanied by an older person. This person acted as their chaperone and kept their movements accountable until they were rightfully married. This included the simple acts of visiting the library, a walk on the park, parties and balls. Traveling alone was something left for dishonorable spinsters.

He’d seen a chance at changing his status in life, when he met a struggling young woman who was desperate for a husband and doing her most to see herself honorably settled.
With her help he was able to gain admission into a prestigious university in America, travel the distance, live in a good environment and even buy a car. These were accomplishments regarded for the rich and dreamed about daily by the poor. While he knew he couldn’t marry Evelyn because of her status as a spinster and all that came with it, he continued to exploit her until he met a proper lady.
Charlotte Sinclair
Charlotte Sinclair was the second female lead of The Atlantic Bride youtube. She was the first daughter of the reputable Sinclair family. And even though America was already the land of the free as of 1920, there was class difference and some of the European tradition still applied. Being from a reputable family was very important for a lady’s prospects and her family was top society.
While schooling was prohibited for the European counterparts, Charlotte could study. She’d met Thomas Reed as a university student, had heard about the girl he left back home and didn’t object when he continued the relationship while they planned to be married. Julian Kane

He was the heir of Kane industries and presided over their businesses, including a shipping company, auto repair shops, luxury hotels and restaurants.
